The Sewickley Township Public Library is pleased to announce its 2016 Summer Reading Program “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” which will begin on Thursday, June 2nd, and run through Wednesday, July 27th. Registration begins Monday, May 23rd. The program is open to all children and teens through age 18. There will be four age groups: Read to Me Club: through age 5; Beginning Readers Club: ages 6 through 8; Summer Reading Club: ages 9 through 13; and Teen Reading Club: ages 14-18.

The reading program consists of three different segments. The first segment will involve the completion of reading logs. Children through age 8 and in the Read to Me and Beginning Readers Clubs will earn 1 raffle ticket for every 3 books that someone reads to them or that they read themselves. The reading log will be complete and can be turned in after fifteen books have been read. Children from ages 9 through 18 and in the Summer Reading and Teen Reading Clubs will earn 1 raffle ticket for every 15 minutes they read. Logs can be turned in after 2.5 hours are completed. In addition, each time the child or young adult visits the Library they will receive 1 raffle ticket. The raffle tickets will be good for a chance to win fantastic prizes including books, DVDs, passes to the Carnegie Science Center and Pittsburgh Zoo, gift certificates for Target, Old Navy and Barnes & Noble, and more. There will definitely be something for everyone!

The second segment of the program will be weekly activities at the Library itself. These activities will consist of storytime, crafts, games, and much more! They will begin the week of June 6th. The Read to Me Club will meet on Wednesdays from 1-2PM.; the Beginning Readers Club will meet Mondays from 1:30-2:30PM.; the Summer Reading Club will meet on Mondays from 3-4PM. Teens in the Teen Reading Club are welcome to help out with the younger children at any time!

And finally, the third segment of the program includes special events held throughout the summer. The special programs feature professional performer Tim Hartman from the Children’s Museum of PIttsburgh, members of the Riverhounds Professional Soccer Team, a swim  night at Crabapple Pool & much more!

Registration for the Summer Reading Program is open and ongoing. There is no limit to the number of children who can sign up for the program, however, due to space constraints, weekly daytime events for each age group will be limited to 30 children. Children do not have to attend the weekly daytime events to complete the reading logs and attend the special programs. Registration must be made in person at the Library, as information packets are given to each child. Parents must be present to register children under 12.
