Events and Classes Summer Reading ProgramOur Summer Reading Program is held for 8 weeks every summer from June-August. The program is open to all children and teens who have a library card or whose parent's have a card. There are four age groups: Read to Me Club (Story Hour): through age 5 Beginning Readers Club: ages 6 through 8 Summer Reading Club: ages 9 through 12 Teen Reading Club: through age 18 The entire reading program consists of three different segments. The first segment involves the completion of reading logs. Children through age 8 and in the Read to Me and Beginning Readers Clubs earn 1 raffle ticket for every 3 books that someone reads to them or that they read themselves. The reading log is complete when 15 books are read. Children ages 9 through 18 and in the Summer Reading and Teen Reading Clubs earn 1 raffle ticket for every hour they read. Logs are complete after 5 hours are read. In addition, each time the child or young adult visits the library, they receive 1 raffle ticket. The raffle tickets are good for a chance to win fantastic prizes. Some of our most popular prizes have included DVDs, passes to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Carnegie Science Center, Pirates tickets, autographed Steelers pictures, and much, much more! The second segment of the program involves weekly activities at the library. These activities consist of storytimes, crafts, games, snacks and more! Each Club meets at a different time throughout the week. Contact the Library in May to find out when your Club will meet. And finally, the third segment of the program includes special events with performers from all over the state. Last year we had a storyteller, an expert on knights that brought his own suits of armor for everyone to try on, a Harry Potter party, and a magician! The Summer Reading Program always finishes with our Fantastic Final Summer Reading Program Pizza Party, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, which is always a lot of fun!Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins at the beginning of June. There is no limit to the number of children who can sign up for the program, however, due to space constraints, weekly events for each age group will be limited to 30 children. Sign-ups are on a first-come, first- served basis and must be made in person at the Library. Parents must be present to register children under 12. Please call the Library at (724) 446-9940 or email us at sewtwp@nb.net in May to find out more information. We hope to see you here!
